from Reggie McNeal's Missional Rennaissance. Well worth the read.
Sound familiar?
I grew up in the church-centric world. The result was that I viewed the kingdom through church eyes. The kingdom was primarily something that was going to be ushered in someday. “Thy kingdom come” was a prayer for the return of Jesus, who would finally set up a world where church people would feel at home. The closest thing to kingdom activity was when churches cooperated to do more church stuff – citywide revivals and joint worship services and such.
Sound familiar?
hmmm i'm three chapters into MR and not sure i'd agree with you on "Well worth the read."
I feel he's getting his mandate for such a Renaissance from a cultural definition of "church"
I am little further into it now, and I think you're right. At the very least, though, I would say his challenges to "activity-driven" churches are what I most appreciate. Thinking of the churches where I come from, the above quote is what really strikes me. How about "worth a read" rather than "well worth the read." :)
Call it what you want. "Activity-driven" churches or not. Bottom line is Jesus. Pointing the way to Messiah to those who don't even know there's one. Or if they do,...keep it to themselves. Even worse!
Anonymous, it does make a difference. And while I do agree that Jesus is the "bottom line," what I meant to point out is the "how" we get the message out, not the "if."
So now it boils down to "how" we get the message out? Bingo. With due respect, therein, lies the problem. Glad to know Jesus got it right.
At what point did I say the "how" was the bottom line? I agreed with you! This is a leadership question...I should hope that would interest you. But, if not, then you could have ignored the post altogether.
Lead on, sir...
